Cathy was a very good sewer.  When she was growing up, one of her friend's parents was a tailor and taught her several tricks of the trade.  She made many things, including her own wedding dress, the baptismal gown we brats were baptized in, the bridesmaid dresses for Mary and Janet's weddings, and Mary's wedding dress.  She also made aprons for Altrusa (a volunteer group) to use at their annual fundraiser, and was often making things for friends and family.

Cathy drove many miles so Janet could look at colleges.  She, her friend Nancy, and Janet drove from Wisconsin to Cleveland so Janet could take a look at Case Western Reserve University.   It was a 16 hour drive, if I remember correctly, and Cleveland wasn't that exciting to visit, but it helped Janet decide (no way!).
